What a truly special evening at the Olivier Awards, held in the breathtaking Royal Albert Hall.
I felt deeply honoured to be invited by the Royal Opera House, attending alongside Associate Director Dan Ayling to represent the extraordinary Katie Mitchell and her brilliant team for The Makropulos Case, nominated for Best New Opera Production, which I proudly provided the Intimacy Direction for.
A deeply inspiring evening celebrating artistry and connection, grounded in inclusion, care, and kindness and reflecting storytelling at its very best. – Ita O’Brien

Honoured to share this moment! In conversation for the V&A Theatre and Performance Archive, I reflect on the journey that has shaped the work in intimacy, consent, and storytelling across stage and screen.
This conversation feels like an important pause to acknowledge how far we have come, and to continue advocating for creative spaces rooted in care, clarity, and respect.
Thanks go to Tim Bano for inviting me to be in the archive, his interest in the development of the work, and a wonderful in-depth & vibrant conversation.
Thanks go to Anna Penney for the preparation and support. – Ita O’Brien

A huge congratulations to the cast and creative team of The Makropulos Case at the Royal Opera House on their Olivier Award nomination.
It was such a privilege to work on this production as Movement and Intimacy Director, alongside the brilliant director Katie Mitchell and an extraordinary company of artists.
Really proud to have been part of this work.

The US edition of Intimacy has landed in Ita’s hands for the first time, who is attending the Women in Film & TV International Conference in Limerick

An absolute delight to hear Maggie O’Farrell, Nina Gold & Liza Marshall speak at the Women in Film and Television celebration lunch for Hamnet. A privilege to be sharing space with such incredible women!

Very grateful to have had my work on Black Bag, working with Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender & directed by Steven Soderbergh, nominated in this category.
It’s genuinely moving to see Intimacy Coordination recognised in this way, and to be alongside such thoughtful, skilled work of fellow practitioners:
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy — Renée Zellweger & Leo Woodall, IC Adelaide Waldrop
Dreamers — Ronke Adekoluejo & Ann Akinjirin, IC El Wood
Sinners — Wunmi Mosaku & Michael B. Jordan, IC Amanda Peek
Wicked: For Good — Cynthia Erivo & Jonathan Bailey, IC Yarit Dor
This work is always about care, consent, and collaboration; supporting performers in moments that ask for trust and vulnerability.
I remain thankful to Girls On Film for recognising and celebrating this work, and for the wider community that continues to hold these standards with integrity.
