Accredited Intimacy Practitioner Training

Intimacy On Set is delighted to be validated as a training body for Intimacy Practitioners by SAG-AFTRA. We offer a robust training pathway for individuals to become fully accredited practitioners.

The arc of training to become accredited through Intimacy On Set is a two to three year process. The training is divided into three strands of practice.

  1. Intimacy Pedagogy for teaching in education institutions and in the industry
  2. Intimacy Direction for theatre and live performance
  3. Intimacy Coordination for TV and Film

The training includes online theory sessions, consolidated with in‑person workshops that help practitioners embody the work in the space. The training is further supported through extended mentorship with an accredited practitioner who will guide and support those in training on productions. The training is suitable for those who are looking to become full‑time practitioners in the intimacy sector.

About the Training

Stage One

The foundation stage of training is an introduction to the three main strands of practice as people explore the work and understand how it differs according to context. Practical sessions will help people consider the basics of choreography and movement when working with intimate content as well as covering necessary health and safety training.

Stage Two

In Stage 2 Intimacy On Set trainees are placed under the mentorship of an accredited intimacy on set practitioner. This marks the beginning of shadowing an accredited practitioner, which then transitions into working on productions and in schools as an assistant practitioner to help the trainees learn the ropes in situ.

Stage Three

The cohort of practitioners in training come back together for a combination of online training and in-person workshops. As a group, trainees will explore their practice from Stage 2. Stage 3 also focuses on written assessments in preparation for accreditation.

Stage Four

A written assessment for each pathway will be completed by the practitioner in training and submitted to Intimacy On Set for review. Following the submission of the written assessment, the practitioner will then take part in a viva with an accredited intimacy practitioner from Intimacy On Set together with an external examiner. The practitioner will be graded, and if they pass, they will be offered a certificate of accreditation.
